The CRT thread (Critical Race Theory)

#1

Post by CHEEZY17 »

There is lots of misinformation being thrown about around here. This is coupled with a misunderstanding of what CRT entails. I'll address these as follows:

Many folks like to say "Its not even being taught in schools!" That is a half-truth at best and an outright lie at worst. Its TRUE that there are no literal classes called CRT being taught in grade schools or high schools across the country. Where that statement loses all credibility, however, is that what lies behind the teachings of CRT, the dogma and beliefs, can be incorporated into all areas of the lessons being taught without actually calling the lesson "CRT" and that is what we are seeing in some situations.

Also, some folks come right out and say it as this literal quote from the Detroit Public Schools Superintendent shows:
"Our curriculum is deeply using critical race theory, especially in social studies, but you’ll find it in English, language arts, and the other disciplines," Vitti said. "We’re very intentional about creating a curriculum, infusing materials and embedding critical race theory within our curriculum."
Numerous other examples are easily found.
This is just one example, so please, everyone here who thinks this, PLEASE stop with the fallacy that no one teaches it and its not even taught ever.

That said...The Right likes to say its everywhere. Its not. It creeps up here and there but it is not as embedded as some would like to believe.

THAT is the point, at least from my perspective, of what conservatives are fighting. We dont want it to mission creep into a standard way of teaching. It is NOT a benign topic and certainly not one for grade schoolers.

Further mischaracterizations:
"The Right doesnt want to teach about slavery!"
WRONG.
No one is saying we should stop teaching about slavery and no one wants this. Thats another fallacy put forth by the supporters.

"The Right doesnt want to teach the truth!"
WRONG.
Thats actually what we do want. Lessons based on hard facts and not feelings. This is with the knowing and understanding that some facts are uncomfortable...for each side. Yes, racism exists and no one denies this. We simply dont agree with the notion that every bad thing that happens to minorities is a result of racism. We deny that premise and we disagree that that is how things should be taught.

In the other thread it was asked "Why are you against it?"

Heres why:

CRT teaches, adheres to and bases its entire premise on the following:
America is inherently a racist country
The color of ones skin is the foundation of their being and should always factor into everything they do and how they do it
White people are oppressors and minorities are ALWAYS victims.
Racism is deeply embedded into everything.
Segregation is necessary based on skin color
Any inequity must be raced based
If you deny those things you are a racist.
To fight all this racism you must be actively Anti-racist which means believing those things and purposely working to dismantle all of the inherently racist systems in America.

To remedy this CRT states:
"The only remedy to past discrimination is present discrimination. The only remedy to present discrimination is future discrimination."

I will ask the supportrers:
Why do you support it?
"When governments fear the people, there is liberty. When the people fear the government, there is tyranny."

You misquoted and spun what Ibram Kendi said.
The actual quote is:
“The only remedy to racist discrimination is antiracist discrimination. The only remedy to past discrimination is present discrimination. The only remedy to present discrimination is future discrimination.”

Basically, he's saying that the only way to end racism is to discriminate against racists.

And that is NOT the foundation of CRT nor is it a CRT precept. That's just one man's point of view.

Nice spin though. Good try.

which is the point of why this is such a retarded topic. you can ask 100 "experts" on CRT and you will get 100 different definitions of what it is and what it means. This is not a subject to be thrown around by grade school teachers.

And a nice dodge. Discrimination is discrimination however you slice it. And when you believe that EVERYTHING is racist...then what?
I notice you didnt address anything else listed. I wonder why?

You can laugh all you want but youre still dodging. You know that colleges and other schools across the country are consciously and purposely segregating events and activities, right? It is under the guise that the segregation is necessary for people of color. The foundation of this line of thought is CRT. Do you deny this?
Do you deny that the trend now, because of CRT, is to claim inequities must be because of racism?

Just a coincidence that these happen after being taught with the principles of CRT.
CRT has nothing to do with these actions!

When you perceive everything as fundamentally racist it is easy to claim victimhood.
Once victimhood is claimed, it absolves the individual of all personal responsibility for their circumstance.

Damn. Every once and awhile the former writer in me comes out. Thats fucking beautiful.
