If it happens the power will simply lie with each state to choose as they see fit.

Too bad so sad.

State legislatures will have to do the wet work now.

It's funny because abortion is one of thew areas where I side with liberals. Not because I give half a fuck about a woman's right to choose; I just hate babies.
But holy fuck, it's going to be epic entertainment watching liberal crybabies' heads explode while they throw their impotent, limp-wristed, soy-fueled tantrums, throwing their heads to the sky and screaming. The liberal tears will flow like rivers. It's going to be glorious.

I suppose we can all read into this what we will. But the Roe v Wade ruling was mostly based on the Due Process clause of the 14th amendment which establishes the right to personal privacy, that a person cannot be deprived of "life, liberty, and property" without due process. Alito in his draft opinion made it clear (and explicitly so) that he did not believe Roe v Wade was "deeply rooted in history", along with other rulings based on privacy rights that legalized sodomy and same-sex marriage. He, again explicitly, said these were "phony rights", not real and actual rights that a person has as a citizen and resident of US lands. So..., what else is a "phony right" to Alito's thinking? Mixed race marriage, maybe? Religious rights? Women's rights? Any other rights that seem "icky" to him?

Privacy for me, but not for thee, it looks like.

The goddamn sky isn’t falling.

I’ll never understand why so many Americans believe everything is the purview of the federal government. Actually, we all know exactly why.

Abortion mills will be doing land office bidness in Kalifornia-guarandamnteed.

One could certainly argue about the past and present makeups of two biggest national parties. But, in the past, Republicans supported such amendments both that passed and failed:

Failed: transportation infrastructure and funding under federal control

Failed: amendment to regulate child labor laws

Passed: 18th/21st amendments, to establish/repeal Prohibition

Failed: a proto-ERA amendment and a two-term limit to presidential terms (at a later time the 22th amendment)

Failed: anti-busing amendment

Failed: amendments for "Right to Life" and school prayer

Failed: victim's rights amendment

Failed: "marriage protection" amendment ie to prohibit same-sex marriages.

How much are any of these Republican backed amendment attempts really in the "purview of the federal government"? Any and all of them stymie in some fashion state rights to run their states as they see fit. We didn't need to, at least then, amend the Constitution to allow the privacy rights to abortion, as it was spelled out right there in the 14th amendment.

One’s body is inviolable, subject to one’s own will alone.

Learn it. Live it.
You keep forgetting, BRR, that the only actual religion in this country with true rights is (evangelical) Protestant Christianity. Jews are tolerated, maybe, and Catholics and other Orthodox will some day be in a very rude awakening. Pagans, Muslims, Hindus, and other non-Western religions are right out. And well, those of us with no religion at all, or supposed ones like TST, we'll be put up against the wall first.

Except, no, Jodi. All that decision would do is put the power in each states hands. You'll still be able to kill your baby somewhere.

What if it's a complicated pregnancy, and a decision needs to be made to save one life or the other?

Try to think carefully how you answer. Someone with personal experience, by actually BEING IN THE ROOM WHEN THE DECISION NEEDS TO BE MADE might be watching...

We Canadians went through this in the 80s. Basically it was determined that if we dont provide a safe place to have an abortion, they will get a road side one and risk their health. And we respect womens rights up here.

Sad little shop you run down there.

Exactly. WE need more abortions in the inner cities, not less. And the federal govt should pay for them

Then the health of the mother would take priority. Same with rape or incest-no issues at all with terminating that pregnancy. Was that CAREFUL ENOUGH FOR YOU?
