Lunar Eclipse of a Full Moon Sunday Night

For CTC, a lunar eclipse is when the sun blocks out the moon so that it goes dark for a bit and then it reappears.

Its unique because it is going to last so long.

Partial eclipse begins: 10:27 ET (9:27 Central time, CTC).
Totally dark at: 11:29 ET (10:29 Central).
Totally dark ends at : 12:53 am ET (11:53 pm Central).
Partial eclipse ends: 1:55 am ET (12:55 am Central).

On a side note, there will be 7 more full moons in 2022. Each of them have a name. The Beaver Moon will be November 8th, and we are hoping Disco can get some pictures of that.

For the sun to block out the moon wouldn't it have to be between the earth and the moon?

The Earth blocks the Sun’s rays from hitting the moon.

You just gave Michael Bay and Jerry Bruckheimer a great idea for a movie!

So, is this at dusk or dawn? Why can't these solar system objects start doing things on a orderly timely basis?

For the sun to block out the moon it must be a hell of an orbit.

Its interesting that there are very few solar eclipses because the moon is so small that it can only block the entire sun if it is in exactly the right location. The sun, however, is so much larger than the moon that it can easily block the moon for an eclipse. That's why there are more of them and why they last so much longer.
