The Mets acquire Gott and Flexen from Mariners. Uncle Steve trying for that wildcard.

They DFA'd Flexen. May hope that he'll agree to go to triple A after going through waivers.

Can Gott be a reliever? That's the Mets major weakness.

P.S. Nevermind, looked it up, Gott is a reliever

Mets had Flexen before and he was terr8ble. I think the Mariners packaged him in that deal to get rid of him. Mets wanted Gott so they took Flexen as well.

Soto has one more year of control and will definitely get a bigger haul this summer than next. As much as I would rather have Ohtani, Soto is raking again. Having him and Tatis for the foreseeable future is hard to give up on. I hope they hold on to him.

Hader is more expendable, especially if Suarez comes back soon (and strong). I would rather they sign Kim long term than Hader.

I'm starting to think Preller needs to go. The Padres need to develop their own players at some point.

I feel like he lacks the patience to put a plan in place and keep the club successful year in and year out. He seems to have more misses than hits on trades (maybe that's normal). He did strike gold in picking up Tatis and convinced Manny to sign a few years ago. But overall my feelings on him are mixed and I wouldn't be upset to try a different approach.

The Dodgers are tough to keep up with.

San Diego is a small media market. St. Louis(most years) and Tampa would probably be better role models to emulate.

At the end of the 2022 MLB regular season, Jon Berti (MIA) led the league with 41 stolen bases.

At the halfway mark of the 2023 MLB regular season, Esteury Ruiz (OAK) has 43 stolen bases and Ronald Acuna Jr. (ATL) has 41.

I'm thinking those bigger bags are having an effect.

Bonus note: Elly De La Cruz (Cin), who was called up on June 6th, piled up 16 stolen bases in his first month. He's on pace for 66.

The Reds knew what they were doing by giving him Eric Davis' old number.

I think it has more to do with the limit on pick-off attempts. Especially if they throw over twice. Then it's green-light time for anyone with ability. Nearly impossible to stop the runner then, unless they're idiots.

The bigger bags don't hurt but the disengagement limit defintely gives a big advantage to the runners.

I am a big fan of all the new rule changes. Makes up for the MLB completely screwing the pooch on the catcher blocking the basepath/plate nonsense they implemented a couple years ago.

you would have to think that's the difference. that's the most impact 4.5 inches has had in a long time.

The Cincinnati Reds have now been shut out 3 games in a row.
During those 3 games, they had a total of 8 hits.

That hasn't happened in 130 years.

Holy crap! Shutouts happen. But losing two in a row by a 0-1 score has gotta be brutal. So brutal it causes you to lose the 3rd game 0-3.

The Mets will send Scherzer to Texas Rangers if he approves. I'm thinking he wants to be on a contender. So this is probably a done deal. But we will see.
