Sigh. Gets so old explaining to this retard. The reason for this thread and the reason it's funny is because S. American fire ants have been discovered in Italy and experts are predicting their spread throughout Europe.Reservoir Dog wrote: ↑Mon Sep 11, 2023 11:19 pm"Funny Italy celebrates their native son- Columbus."CentralTexasCrude wrote: ↑Mon Sep 11, 2023 11:07 pm"So do you" what? the plan right now is to eradicate them. They have found 88 nests so far. they are going to start a campaign to educate locals and attempt to kill them all before they populate and spread
Europe, I highly recommend this:

Well hell. I heard Italy. Turns out they are near Syracuse on Sicily. Surely the Italians can stop them on an island. But we are talking Italians.

yep. sicily. but the people there have been complaining of ant bites since 2019 and it took 3 years to confirm it was fire ants. and they import lots of crop stuff (olives, etc) from sicily to several europe countries. i'm sure they have already hitched rides all over the place.CentralTexasCrude wrote: ↑Tue Sep 12, 2023 12:08 amWell hell. You are probably right. Like I said, this Columbian Exchange has been going on for 500+ years.Animal wrote: ↑Tue Sep 12, 2023 12:19 amyep. sicily. but the people there have been complaining of ant bites since 2019 and it took 3 years to confirm it was fire ants. and they import lots of crop stuff (olives, etc) from sicily to several europe countries. i'm sure they have already hitched rides all over the place.CentralTexasCrude wrote: ↑Tue Sep 12, 2023 12:08 amWell hell. Wasnt there a thing with "killer bees" too a few years back (not the "murder hornets")?

Re: Take that Europe!
Yeah, some East African honey bees were imported into Brazil in the 50's. Several swarms escaped, and they have moved north, interbreeding with the American honey bee. They are pretty aggressive. I've seen several beekeeper videos where they get one of the hybrid queens by accident and the worker bees are just insane in the way they attack.
Usually, they can just replace the queen with a non-africanized one and the problem will resolve in a few weeks as the crazy bees die off. I did see one video where the beekeeper killed the entire hive since they were so bad.

They aren't. That's just where they have been found. From my experience here (less than 100 miles from Mexico), a couple of years of drought or unusual cold Winters, and they get hammered bad. The only place I see them here are places that run sprinkler systems.
