12 days to go
After first hearing about it 3 years ago, the first of 2 Solar Eclipses here in 6 months. I think Animal started a thread about it 2 years ago or so. Dead center in the Oct 14th one is 30 miles South of here. Still be 4 minutes 40 seconds (or so) long here in Kerrville. The one in April 2024 is a bulls eye 6 miles West.
Other than the San Antonio area, some pretty unpopulated areas of the US involved it seems.

Go to a Northern Tool or welding supply place and get a replacement lens #14 shade for a welding helmet. They are about 4" wide and 8" long. You can hold it in front of your eyes instead of wearing glasses to view the eclipse.
Its a much better solution than the cheap shit they sell last minute to view them with.

Should be a wonderful day.
The problem is not that there is evil in the world, the problem is that there is good. Because otherwise, who would care?

Hell, just like July 4th 2021 when I videotaped the fireworks (YouGeeAre) from my porch with sound, I'm driving down to ground zero and videotaping. Post it here if I can figure Imgur. It's like right before Noon- What I hear is all the wildlife goes silent.

What's truly remarkable about these eclipses is that they happen at all considering that the Earth only rotates on it's axis twice a year.CentralTexasCrude wrote: ↑Tue Oct 03, 2023 12:19 am Hell, just like July 4th 2021 when I videotaped the fireworks (YouGeeAre) from my porch with sound, I'm driving down to ground zero and videotaping. I'm in totally for the 2024 eclipse. I plan on doing fireworks. I hope that is a good idea.

Sorry neither eclipse is coming close to Kansas. I guess you and the kids will have to go back to jumping for joy when you see a jet passing overhead at 45,000 feetrule34 wrote: ↑Tue Oct 03, 2023 2:09 pmJust remember, the world is not coming to an end. OK. Looking at the forecast 7 days out. Looks like a cold front the day before making it an almost cloud free day.

man that would suck if it was raining or totally cloudy on that day. what are some of the crazy stories about motel rates or VRBO rentals, etc.??CentralTexasCrude wrote: ↑Fri Oct 06, 2023 11:06 pm OK. I think i heard a guy the other day that is already renting out spaces for next spring's eclipse in Burnett. I think it is the geographic center of the whole world for that one, with the longest dark time. I think that guy has about a 3 day festival planned.

Re: 12 days to go
Yeah, it's 2 eclipses in 6 months but the 1 next Spring seems to be the headline. Not much hype on this one. We shall see.Animal wrote: ↑Fri Oct 06, 2023 11:14 pmman that would suck if it was raining or totally cloudy on that day. what are some of the crazy stories about motel rates or VRBO rentals, etc.??CentralTexasCrude wrote: ↑Fri Oct 06, 2023 11:06 pm OK. Re: 12 days to go
Drove home this afternoon but saw a beautiful sight this morning out on a W Texas oil field road in the middle of nowhere. Saw a flash out of the corner of my eye. Slowed to nothing and a Mom Javelina and her 2 piglets slowly crossed in front of me. Hope the feral pig hunters can tell the difference. Javelina aren't native either but they are not causing any harm like the ferals.

You know they exist, why else would farmers have to paint cow on the side of their cattle during hunting season?Animal wrote: ↑Sat Oct 07, 2023 1:31 ami don't know anyone that would confuse a javalina for a feral pig.CentralTexasCrude wrote: ↑Sat Oct 07, 2023 1:27 amDrove home this afternoon but saw a beautiful sight this morning out on a W Texas oil field road in the middle of nowhere.
