I think he means it more in the sense of Hamas or similar group launching a terroristic attack here.
I dont think anyone thinks Hamas is going to take over Peoria Illinois- thats just a dumb statement intended to minimize legitimate concerns of a terrorist threat.

The first two hostages released in October were Americans. Released under no conditions. Not sure why the "no Americans" released story even gained traction.

i am beginning to get the feeling that this entire series of events by Hamas was simply to gather hostages so they could stage an exchange. Just one more example of how my brain will never be able to understand how their brains work. They get 150 hostages and a city of rubble.

I think they did what they did to bring attention to the conflict. And provoke the response they got from Israel. If killing jews was the goal, they certainly made their goal tougher to achieve.

But Hamas pre-October 7th (much like Bibi) were losing power and had to do something to rally their base. Nothing pumps nationalism through the veins like war.

Both sides benefited from the attack. Remember, Bibi was under attack from the left for his judicial reforms.

Hill Democrats, staring down an influential young bloc of their base voters infuriated by the party’s handling of the war, have no clear consensus on how to respond. Bernie Sanders summed up the quandary in a Nov. 16 statement, saying that “I am not quite sure how you negotiate a ceasefire with a terrorist organization that is dedicated to perpetual war.”

Bernie is so progressive he calls for "humanitarian pauses" instead of a "ceasefire". He is using semantics to pledge his allegiance to Israel like most US politicians.

He definitely didn't support the carpet bombing of Gazan neighborhoods either way.

Even condemning rapes is not acceptable to these lunatics. Dem rep Dingell's district actually borders Tlaibs (I think).
This divisive split within the party over the terrorist actions is going to be a huge issue for the Dims. For once the R's seem to be generally united on this.

Dingell says she was doxxed over Hamas rapes

White House interns demand a Middle East cease-fire in letter to Biden
The letter, first shared with NBC News, is supported by more than 40 interns who work in the White House and other executive branch offices.
