Kings of the 1 run victories!

Last year the Milwaukee Brewers turned winning close games into an art form.
This year they are 6-1 out of the gate but they only have a run differential of +3.
They have won 5 games by 1 run, and the 6th win was by 2 runs.
I'll say one thing for the Brew Crew.... their games aren't boring.
On a side note....
WTF Boston?!?!?!
WTF Seattle ?!?!?!

Pirates are the masters of the late inning blown lead.

I like when small market teams do well.
How 'bout them Tigers!
In a complete departure from the Ausmus regime, Gardenhire has them playing hard and fundamental baseball. Its clear he is not afraid to tell the veterans a thing or two unlike Ausmus. The Tigers are running the bases better and playing solid defense. They are actually kinda fun to watch. I'm not sure how long this will last but its fun for now.

I know better than to trust the Mariners at all, but holy fucking shit are they beating the living crap out of anybody they face. I reminds me of the 116 win season, always ahead, lot of runs after 2 out, win every series, score early and often...

Those guys weren't even on the radar screen prior the season starting. The Vegas books had them at +6000 to win the World Series prior to the season starting. Of course, this could just be an anomaly and a month from now they'll be at .500.

The Milwaukee Brewers went 20-7 in September and are going to the playoffs.
But check this out... here's a list of all the MLB teams going to the playoffs along with their regular-season run differential.
New York Yankees +204
Tampa Bay Rays +113
Minnesota Twins +185
Houston Astros +280
Oakland Athletics +165
Atlanta Braves +112
Washington Nationals +149
St. Louis Cardinals +102
Los Angeles Dodgers +273
Milwaukee Brewers +3
I'm tellin' ya... no one wins close games better than the Brew Crew!

Does that have to do with close games or when they lose they lose big?

None of this matters. My Astros are taking the WS by storm. 2 in 3 years. Full home field advantage through the WS. 2 pitchers (Verlander and Cole) essentially tied for the AL Cy Young award. Highest batting avg in all baseball, lowest walks, highest ipo, etc etc. I understand it's less important in the AL with the DL, but the Astros set a 60 year record last year for the fewest intentional walks at 4. This year, the total through 165 games was zero. This team is locked and loaded. And what's scary, they have talent at their minor league level that could start for most major clubs, but they are stuck with all the talent above.

I am thinking TB. But a TB player did just buy one of my listings. I may be underthinking this.

I have 3 rules when it comes to sports betting...
NEVER bet on baseball.
NEVER bet on hockey.
NEVER bet on basketball.
But if I did... my money would be on the A's.

Probably going with the over.
And I have heard that Football is the Blackjack of sports but I am a degenerate. What can I say?

I completely agree. Your entire 162 game season comes down to one game? That's bullshit.
They should end the regular season a week earlier and make the wild-card series a best of 3.

It's basically a golden ticket, which as a Padres fan I embrace. Does kind of screw the "real" wildcard but worth it IMO. It's not like wild cards have been around forever anyways.

Maybe a team should just win their division. You really shouldn't get extra chances because you finished in second place.

There have been a lot of wild-card teams that finished with better records than division winners. (the Nats did it this year)
Just sayin'.

There was a time when each league was a single group of teams. When the season ended the winner of each league went to the World Series.
Nothing for the second place teams except a longer off season.

That was then... this is now.
Teams giving up a couple of games in the final week of the season (when the stands are empty anyway) would make a wild-card series far more enjoyable and profitable (every seat would be filled and the TV deal would be more lucrative)

And more teams in the playoffs makes it interesting for more cities. I don't think they should go NHL with the playoffs but I'm good with wildcards and expanded playoffs.

More games = more money. Simple as that. They have to figure out how to shorten the game and/or make it more interesting otherwise it will die off. Unless you are an old fart, no one has the patience or attention span to watch baseball. Never mind paying my Red Sox $100 for the privilege of going to a 1:00 Tuesday afternoon game and enjoying a $12 beer, another loss. Give me a fight, a high score, cheerleaders...something for my money. Sitting on a hard, cold, plastic chair for 4 hours isn't going to cut it. Better yet, give me a CAP on what some of these clowns make to play a kid's game for 6 months a year.
