Winter boots need to be bigger, and slightly loose. Insulation is your friend. I put a base pair on under my wool socks. Wool is still about to retain 80% of its insulating value even when wet. Alpaca wool is supposed to be even better.

Merino wool is the way to go. The hood on my military polar parka is lined with it. Good to -60C.

Floor heat keeps it never less than 50 on the coldest days and a couple of radiant propane heaters bring it up to about 60 which is just right for working.
