Baltimore Bridge...Gone!

I was reading about the 6 people that (probably) died in the accident. They were all working on the bridge.

1 from El Salvador
1 from Honduras
2 from Guatamala
2 from Mexico

I just saw on the news that immigrants make up 40% of Baltimore's Construction people. I guess they're not a big Union state. They will also be the ones to rebuild the bridge.

i'm sure that video was slightly sped up, but you could see cars driving over the bridge, so it wasn't sped up too much. so, it just amazes the hell out of me that they were able to make a mayday call. that someone was able to hear it and relay it to traffic cops. and they were able to shut the bridge down for traffic. I've been thinking about it and while tugs can help steer a vessel under power, I really wonder if they could have done anything to help prevent something like this from happening with such a massive ship with a full load that was basically just adrift.

It's because they're a syndicate comprised of a bunch of smaller carriers. They're a stable one at that. I have a Lloyd's policy that I sell sub-policies from and their rates haven't changed in over 12 years.

probably, but i have never heard a number. i know its a very low amount. but that isn't the same thing. the only thing people pay premiums to an insurance company are for the risk of loss. if that risk is only 10% then that's insane. that industry is regulated by the government. there's no way they let insurance companies pocket 90% of the money they collect.

years ago, i had an insurance policy on a hunting ranch. it was with a small, rural company that was run as a co-op. they only offered ranch and farm insurance policies. Anyway, their rates were super cheap compared to what my company's insurance comppany wanted for insuring the place. Like 25% of the price I was quoted. So I signed with them. They covered everything, even the 4-wheelers and they covered hunting accidents, etc. Then after the first year I get a check in the mail from them. They divide up the profits at the end of the year with the members of the co-op. And by having a policy you are automatically a member of the co-op.

That seemed like such a brilliant way to provide insurance.
