Rewatched an some old "This Old House" episodes. They were on the Jersey Shore after Sandy went through and helping with the rebuilds. They did something for foundations. They used Helical Screws or Piers that screw into the ground. Went deeper and looked like they could support a lot more weight.

I also recalled that "This Old House" episode. I have to think the major differences are the equipment size needed to install the helical piers/screws and the amount of load placed on them.

Good points. That episode was 12 years ago and I'm sure things have evolved. They definitely were using bigger equipment to put in those longer piers back then.

Those screws look like they could hold a decent static load, but i wonder how they do in an earthquake or flood zone? Hurricane or tornado prone areas.

I've installed about 1,000 helix anchors in my time, and every time I see this picture it makes me laugh.
