Can a UJR brother get some advice on an AC thermostat

All the news from the peanut gallery and where all the nasty trash talk fails miserably.
It can get NSFW-ish here: you have been warned!

Did have a question for the experts on this subject. The local "expert" that charged me $80 to fix the thermostat 4 weeks ago (and didn't) mentioned today that instead of shutting the fuse box breaker for the thermostat, I can just disconnect the electric plug in from the furnace. Corrrect?

i'd trip the breaker and feel safe. there probably isn't enough voltage in those wires to matter anyway.

That is correct, your transformer is in your indoor unit.

Agree. Thanks. It's really a matter of convenience. Used to have Dad inside telling when I hit the right breaker. That's moot now.

Fucking AC is totally dead. 5 pounds of recently installed freon waiting to cool me down after working 8 hours in 100 degree heat wearing heavy nomex fire retarding BS. All over a $30 part.

i can't remember the wires, but if you touch red to white (or whatever someone that knows tells you) then it should kick the unit on. i don't remember which two wires it is, but yoiu can touch them and it will start the outside unit without a thermostat at all. You need DT to tell you exactly.

Damn, only 42F here and already cooked some swordfish steaks on the BBQ. Actually I'm fine with anything over 35F or so. I'd rather it be 42F than 100F where WTC is at, that's for sure. That's insane. In the cold you can put on a jacket, in heat like that even if you are naked it's still uncomfortable as hell.

I ordered it from Amazon. Be here next monday, May 4th. And yeah, it's not all gloom and doom, set the AC to "auto" it blows cold air. It's desert heat- by 3 AM I'll be reaching for a blanket. Low 60's

you can temporary jumper the wires and it will run. it just won't have anything to cut it off when it gets down to 70 (whatever). so you have to jump and un jump it till the new one comes.

Thanks Flumper. I appreciate the advice. The "auto" AC runs fine.

no problem. i assume you understand that the "auto" only runs the fan and doesn't run the a/c.

That's why he asked for advice, remember the title of this thread? All you offered was insults and criticism when people like DT & Flumper helped him out & got his system working again. Great job bro. ;)

You know following me around like a "lap dog" kinda ruins your reputation. It's like you're a nobody (we already know that) that can only be taken seriously when you latch onto the major members of this forum. It didn't used to be that way. You used to be a free spirited individual, dancing and frolicking through your Pa land smelling the new flower shoots and insects erupting from their winter hibernation and rejoicing at the Spring renewal. NAH. Just a fucking asshole with the same asshole BS issues.
