As long as you only look at the price you paid for the house and the price you sold it for, you're golden.

If you're making $350K, you're likely buying more than a $700K house. Until the Tax cuts and Jobs Act of 2018, property taxes weren't as punitive because they were a schedule A deduction. Now that SALTs are capped at $10k, it's a bigger deal. Fuel taxes cost the average person what? A few hundred a year? Not needing A/C makes up for that.
