I have no problem with anything that'll encourage a lot of people to get the vaccine.Cassandros wrote: ↑Sun Dec 06, 2020 11:41 pmSo you subscribe to the idea that no one can have peanut butter because someone might be allergic.FSchmertz wrote: ↑Sun Dec 06, 2020 8:17 pmI don't agree with this opinion.Cassandros wrote: ↑Sun Dec 06, 2020 7:00 pmThe whole point of a vaccine is to protect the person getting it from the disease its supposed to provide immunity too.FSchmertz wrote: ↑Sun Dec 06, 2020 12:09 amI'd guess that Doctor was only referring to personal protection, not protection of others that may be vulnerable from transmission that came, say, via an infected 18 year old.
To get this bug under control, 60-70% of ALL people need to get vaccinated. Then it'll, hopefully, mostly die out.
But I don't like some folk's attitudes that seem to only care about themselves. We're better than that (I hope).
If the disease isn't really a threat to those who are not in the "high risk category", and all people in that category are vaccinated (who want it)...
When you're dealing with a virus that has reached pandemic state, vaccines also have the purpose of lowering the incidence until it's no longer in a pandemic stage, and preferably eliminating it entirely (though it's not sure that it's possible in this case-though we did it for smallpox).
Also note that there are people out there who CAN"T be vaccinated, due to weak immune systems (even temporarily i.e. undergoing cancer treatment, for instance). To protect those people, it's necessary to vaccinate enough of those with normal immune systems to prevent transmission of the virus.
If someone believes that their only responsibility is to themselves, and fuck everyone else, then I say to them, "with all due respect," go fuck yourselves, you piece(s) of shit.
While I subscribe to the idea that "(s)he who who is vulnerable should be the one to take the extra precautions."
But we should both be on board with cash incentive inoculations. It solves both problems without stepping on either.
Even the President-Elect admits he can't require anyone to get it. Only States/Governors have that power, if they wish to use it.

Ever going to admit Chumpy et al are morons/COVIDiots?
Or just going to keep nitpicking other people who are at least attempting to do the right thing, and occasionally come up short?

Sounds like some people will get vaccinated the first time against Chump Virus this month. They're already shipping it to hospitals ('cause that's the only people who have the cryo freezers for the Pfizer version).

But their employers may be able to force it as a work condition.
P.S. I'm hearing grim things again about the plague in senior citizen centers in NJ
P.P.S. I'm getting it as soon as they'll let me. I'm probably not going to be last in line, considering.

i wouldn't worry too much about it. when the goal is to vaccinate 300 million people, its a pretty small problem when someone says "i don't want to".
