are electric car batteries like normal run of the mill rechargeable batteries, in that if you don't completely drain them, then each time you recharge them they recharge just a little less? And eventually they won't charge at all? I hear that on rechargeable batteries its very important that you follow an exact protocol in how you recharge them in order to get maximum life out of them.

Whenever I have a battery get low on a cordless tool I put a zip tie around the trigger and completely drain the battery before I recharge it.
I can't remember the last time I had a tool battery crap out on me for good. My cordless drill batteries are like 12 years old and still going strong.
