I like Ritchie Blackmore but that sucked.
Rock Star fits

In 1974, Deep Purple played one of the craziest American rock ‘n’ roll festivals, the Californian Jam, in a set which ended with Ritchie Blackmore attacking a cameraman. Their sensational performance – fueled by backstage aggro – climaxed in an orgy of destruction by Blackmore. At the end of Space Truckin’ he smashed his Stratocaster repeatedly into a camera operator’s lens. He went on to destroy several more guitars before a madder-than-expected explosion in his Marshall stacks set his hair on fire. And Ian Paice’s. And most of the road crew’s.

David Coverdale: "We were supposed to go on stage at sunset. That was actually written into our contract. But the California Jam was running ahead of schedule. We’d just flown in by helicopter and I remember being in my backstage caravan, pouring myself a scotch and Coke, when somebody came in and said: “It’s time for you to get out on stage.” "Ritchie wanted Purple to be the first band to use lights on stage. He refused to go on stage until the contracted time, and he was absolutely correct. I remember someone saying: “Do you know who you’re dealing with there?” There was inference the Mafia was involved."

Glenn Hughes: "There was lots of screaming and yelling. Ritchie locked the door to his trailer. They had to break in to get him out of there. Was there a chance Purple’s show might not have gone ahead?"

David Coverdale: "Yes. The festival organizer told us: “Right, that’s it, we’re pulling the plug. You’re all going to fucking hell.” And he stormed off to announce that we wouldn’t be appearing. Luckily our tour manager, Ossie Hoppe, beat him in a race to the stage. Ossie grabbed the mic and shouted to the crowd: “Do you wanna see Deep Purple?!” And a quarter of a million people went: “Yeah!”

Glenn Hughes: "We managed to delay by about 20 minutes but the sun only went down about halfway through our set. But it fired us up; it gave a bit of an edge to our performance. Ritchie had a bit of a moan – he hadn’t had time to change into his stage clothes. Then Blackmore attacked a cameraman."

David Coverdale: "That was never supposed to be part of the show, to smack the cameraman. But he was on Ritchie’s arse from the word go. Ritchie would do his thoughtful, melodic little pieces and there’d be this abrasive voice going: “Hey, step back so I can get a decent shot of you.”

What about the explosive climax?

David Coverdale: "It went a bit too far. There was too much explosive. It looks great, I agree, but Ritchie got burned, Paicey got burned, and some of the crew got burned. Thankfully it was nothing too serious."

Glenn Hughes: "We sold a lot of records and concert tickets in America after that. It was a big, bold statement and it deserves its place in rock’s history books." 🤘
Regardless of its historical significance it still was boring, uninspired guitar work.

Blackmore,he's on my list of most over rated players. I saw him in Rainbow I think it was the straight between the eyes tour ,about '82. First up was Iron Maiden who were working the number of the beast, then 38 special they were doing wild eyed southern boys then rainbow. Right from the start Blackmore was not happy looking. The crowd was really burnt out by the time they got on stage because Iron Maiden and 38 special absolutely tore the place apart. Rainbow was on their 3rd or 4th song and the stage lights slowly dimmed and then went off and the sound went off and then the houselights came on and the band was gone. Pretty much everyone was wtf? but no one seemed to be complaining,it was just wtf happened? Also that night a girl I know hooked up with Bruce Dickinson so she took me backstage to meet him. I was on LSD and we're sitting behind the stage and Bruce and the girl are making out,I was next to her. Behind us was their drummer Clive Burr and he was with the girls friend but she wouldn't make out with him. I was really tripping my balls off and all of a sudden Bruce quits making out and yells at me "what the fuck is wrong with you" and I just yelled "I have to get out of here" so I went back to my seat. That night she went "on tour" with them for 3 weeks, then she came back to go to the prom with her boyfriend. Jesus did the boyfriend get fucked with about that. Just about 40 years ago and when someone mentions the boyfriend's name someone almost always says "remember when his girlfriend went on tour with Iron Maiden?".

38 Special warmed up for Journey, I believe, at Jennison Field House on the campus of Michigan State. My buddy Wayne used to scalp tickets. Back then you could wait in line at the box office and get as many as 20 or 30 or more tickets. He’d resell them to our high school class. They had folding chairs set up on the basketball floor. As soon as the lights went down you could scoot up another 10 or 15 feet closer to the stage.

I’m rambling because 38 Special rocked. We curtain-called them twice. They couldn’t believe it and were so happy.

Yeah, they did at one time. By the time of wild eyed southern boys I don't know if they were. I believe a year or 2 before that night I saw them and they did have the 2 drummers. I used to have my mom go and get tickets for me when you still had to go to the box office. So you can imagine a 60 year old woman very conservative standing in line with a bunch of stoners for an AC/DC back in black concert,or aerosmith rock in a hard place concert. I think they had an 8 ticket limit in Kalamazoo by about 1980.

Yep. I love drummers, two are even better lol. Slipknot plays with several. They're an aquired taste however.

In my machinist days I used my share of lathes of all sizes. I used them a lot but I honestly never felt really super comfortable while doing so. Then I went on this one job interview where they said part of my job requirements would be to run this monstrosity:

FUCK THAT.
I dont even want to know the level of pain in the ass it is to indicate your workpiece into position on that MFer.
