i don't guess its art, but mine has always been in the architecture in history. the beauty they created by trying to span areas with compounding arches and such. I love the simplicity, practicality, ingenuity and beauty of it.

Re: Art Thread NSFW
A lot of those examples (not all) are Muslim creations. A lot in Spain converted to Christian churches.

I think (maybe) that all are Muslim architecture except top row 2nd from left which is St Peter's in Rome.

well, they are from the Byzantine Empire, which (i think) was christian. I am not singling out that one empire for its architecture, but there are some really good examples in the churches they built.CentralTexasCrude wrote: ↑Sat Oct 23, 2021 2:12 amI think (maybe) that all are Muslim architecture except top row 2nd from left which is St Peter's in Rome.

this was under that picture I posted:

Known for its extravagance, Byzantine architecture is defined by the best structural advancements of the age and multiple religious influences. Like Byzantine art, Byzantine architecture was highly influenced by Orthodox Christianity and sought to honor God by creating incredible works.
Much of Byzantine architecture was commissioned by the famous Roman Emperor Justinian. Under his rule, architecture was defined by beautiful interior mosaics and domes higher than their predecessors—the result of an advanced understanding of structure. The structure was often aided by some of the most beautiful elements of many styles including Greek, Roman, and Near East architecture.

From what I've read, St Marks (2nd from left top) in Constantinople was a wonder of the world. Got the brick first few stories done, then had to figure out how to do the dome above. Arches, flying butresses, things never done before. Must have done a great job. Still standing intact 1,300 years later.Animal wrote: ↑Sat Oct 23, 2021 2:21 am this was under that picture I posted:

Re: Art Thread NSFW
that was what was so fascinating about it to me. they solved these complex problems with basic trial and error and they did it and made it look beautiful at the same time. No plans to go by, just sketches and whatever they could make to convey their ideas. and then the builders had to figure out how to build whatever it was they had envisioned. you can't stack rocks into an arch, you first have to build a wooden form to put them on because nothing about it works until its finished.CentralTexasCrude wrote: ↑Sat Oct 23, 2021 2:52 amFrom what I've read, St Marks (2nd from left top) in Constantinople was a wonder of the world. Re: Art Thread NSFW
Yes sir. The brick first few stories was simple. It was how to support a soaring dome hundreds of feet above that had never been done before. No blueprints, no math formulas, just some genius eyeballing the problem and figuring it out. He has a name I just don't remember it. Emperor Justine had it built and was the first to enter when it was completed. A true architecture masterpiece. 1,300 years in an active earthquake zone and it still stands today.Animal wrote: ↑Sat Oct 23, 2021 2:57 amthat was what was so fascinating about it to me. they solved these complex problems with basic trial and error and they did it and made it look beautiful at the same time. And now that I think about it, It's called Hagia Sophia and it's 1,700 years old. St Mark's was built in Venice maybe a thousand years later.

It's actually the Greek Titan named Cronus. But the Italians changed it to Saturn (to fit their Gods) and the name stuck.disco.moon wrote: ↑Sat Oct 23, 2021 1:56 pm Saturn Devouring his Son my bad. By Goya. Creepy af. The story is really cool too.
