There absolutely is a disconnect between old school Liberalism and the new modern Left. Oddly, old school Liberalism in some ways, is finding common ground with conservatism or Libertarianism. Old school Liberals it seems have an ever shrinking place in todays always outraged "Left".
The personification of that is Pelosi/Cortez. If they each had their way the other would be gone.

Re: Old school libs v new age libs
I was wondering where the old school libs are these days? Did they just retire to their communes? I never had beef with a lib. I thought they were wrong, as they thought I was wrong. They didn't seem too political.CHEEZY17 wrote: ↑Tue May 07, 2019 8:40 pm There absolutely is a disconnect between old school Liberalism and the new modern Left. The same can be said for old school Conservative Republicans and Trump Republicans, who appear to have taken the party over.
For one thing, Trumpians seem to think fiscal conservatism is a quaint idea, and spend like drunken sailors.

I think that what we're seeing develop is that classic Liberalism and "The Left" do not always match up. Its a schism thats been developing for awhile and it may eventually splinter the party. If Donny wins again expect the new "Left" to get even more vocal and extreme and either push mainstream Liberals out completely (or as much as they can) or seriously consider some sort of 3rd party.

Donny winning at all shows the two party system will never break, not without changing the framework. If it could he'd have broken it. Remember free trade and fiscal conservatism? Basic tenets are irrelevant next to tribe.

Free trade is now globalism to the right and they freak about it.AnalHamster wrote: ↑Tue May 07, 2019 11:00 pm Donny winning at all shows the two party system will never break, not without changing the framework. Can't have free trade with a corrupt commie nation. Even Schumer is now supporting hanging tough against the chi-Comms.
