For sure. Best picture ever of Pluto. And it will always be a planet to me. 8-)

Runaway supermassive black hole is hurtling through space followed by tail of infant stars (video)

'Like the wake behind a ship, we're seeing the wake behind the black hole. It didn't look like anything we've seen before.'
https://cdn.jwplayer.com/previews/sLkXkB5p

A runaway supermassive black hole ejected from its own galaxy, possibly in a tussle with two other black holes, is being trailed by a 200,000 light-year-long chain of infant stars, a new study reports.

The incredible sight, which is like nothing astronomers have spotted before, was identified by the Hubble Space Telescope in a happy accident.

The supermassive black hole, with a mass equivalent to 20 million suns, is traveling so fast that it would cover the distance between Earth and the moon in just 14 minutes.

Curiosity Rover Snaps Photos of What Look Like Skeletal Remains of a Prehistoric Fish-like Animal on Mars!

Image

The car-sized Curiosity rover has been cruising Mars' Gale Crater for over a decade now, traversing the unforgiving conditions of the Red Planet in hopes of finding signs of life in what is believed to be a dried-out, 3.5 billion-year-old Martian lake.

Earlier this year, the illustrious rover found rippled rocks — the clearest evidence yet of ancient water waves on Mars. But of all the weird geology the Curiosity might've uncovered so far, its recent find could be the strangest, perhaps the most exciting, of them all.

Looking for traces of extraterrestrial life has mostly been limited to microbial life. However, images of the strange structures the rover sent back have given scientists bigger fish to fry.

The pictures clicked by Curiosity's mast camera and ChemCam on Martian day Sol 3786, or April 1, show spikes protruding from a rock lying at the base of the 154 km-long Gale Crater.

"In 20 years of studying Mars, that's the most bizarre rock I have ever seen. I cannot wait to have a microscopic image of this one," tweeted Astrobiologist Nathalie A Cabrol.

The internet is rife with speculations about what the structure could be — from fish bone fossils to the branch of a fir tree.

The guesses ranged from a very easy-to-crumble fish vertebra, fish fossils, mackerel fillet, and the skeleton of some prehistoric creature. But one particularly whimsical Twitter user said, "I'm happy to believe that's the back of a fossilised Martian dragon, curled up in its final resting place".

"On Earth, that would be a fossil plant, say a fir tree branch or fish backbone, difficult for it to be a natural rock formation," another Twitterati added.

Meanwhile, some believe Martian winds may have eroded the rocks to look that way over a large expanse of time.

I don't like the junior high level of giggly play-by-play announcers they use now for these space launches.

I did wonder what she was sitting on. She did squirm a little bit.

Notice how the rocket would accelerate and then decelerate and accelerate again?

i did really notice the extreme acceleration. More than any past launches.

So, Tuesday, just before noon, some Japanese company is going to land a rover on the moon. I hadn't heard of this before reading today. Evidently, this is a private company doing it and the rover was built by an Arab country. The mission was started on a SpaceX rocket in a December 2022 launch and its been flying around waiting to land ever since. This rover is only 22 lbs, so that doesn't sound very big. And this company is a "for profit" company, so I'm not sure what their profit from this will be.

And.....just like that. Houston, we have a problem!

The Japanese/Arab lunar lander has been lost. "Lost" is a code word for "crashed into the moon". They were in the process of landing and lost contact and can't get it back.
