Pitcher Jon Lester couldn't throw the ball to first. It was psycologocal for him. The same thing happened to Dodger 2nd baseman Steve Sax in the 80s. He must have had like 30 errors throwing to 1st base. He ended up having to go to a sports psychologist.
I will never forget Dennis Miller on MNF saying a QB "Knoblauch-ed it" describing an easy missed throw.

Shortstops and second basemen continually "double-clutching it" to first on double-play attempts isn't really rare. One's that continually do it have the "yips." Some never seem to beat it.

The pitcher in that vid clearly double-clutched it too.

Never really had the "yips"...my throws were just all over the place when I played. The only thing that sort of saved me was aiming for the 1st basemans head. That would usually get me close enough to where a good first baseman could finish the play. When I finally ended up playing 2nd base...well, that throw is much easier than the throw from deep short or 3rd base and everyone was much happier.

"Bang-bang" type plays I usually did ok. It was the routine grounders where I had time to think about my throw to first that could be an adventure. The couple years we had a really tall 1st baseman helped a lot.

It also really helps when you've got a Keith Hernandez-type 1st basemen, where you know if your throw is anywhere near the base he's gonna snag it!

Reds' Elly De La Cruz steals 2nd, 3rd and home in same inning.

The Reds are now 23-7 since calling up De La Cruz.

They don't like to embarrass their opponents, it's the Way of the Samurai.

It's a different game over there. Where we have 3-hour rain delays they will play in 3 Inches of water with no problem.

I wonder why they don't design the seating so that its not possible for a fan to reach into the field of play to interfere? You can't change the outcome of that play because you have no idea how that ball would have been fielded, thrown, caught, etc.

I can see Duvall getting in no man's land off 1st but wtf Yoshida?

Anyway, it lead to only the 2nd 8-3-5 triple play in MLB history.

Had to look up positions by number. Seems kinda weird to me that 5 is third and shortstop is 6. Thinking either clockwise or counterclockwise, but nope.
