They ship those couplings with gas pipe. Never understand why. Had a guy use them in a slab. No gas pressure at the end of the line because they leaked so badly.

Re: Post nothing for good reason (NSFW)
would it be to protect the threads.I know the smaller pieces like 1/2" or whatever usually have a plastic protecter on the threads but with large pipe I could see threads getting damaged with out a steel coupler to protect the threads. It also seems doing that "trick" would damage the threads of the coupler but after you stating they come with the coupler maybe it's simply for protection? I know we used to deal with smmall pipe fittings for water lines in plastic injection molds and I just started either "chasing the threads" with a die on the male threads and running a tap manually into female threads just a turn or two ,until then I could never get them to seal.Charliesheen wrote: ↑Fri Nov 17, 2023 11:34 am They ship those couplings with gas pipe. That pipe and fitting are galvanized so I'm guessing it's electrical conduit, which is mostly PVC nowadays.Charliesheen wrote: ↑Fri Nov 17, 2023 11:34 am They ship those couplings with gas pipe. Re: Post nothing for good reason (NSFW)
yep, but that little trick should work for iron pipe, or threaded pvc pipe or anything else that is threaded. i had to remove a pipe thread off of an old water well several years ago. i ended up with a cheater pipe about 10 feet long. I thought i was going to twist the metal pipe in half before the threads finally broke loose (soaked for hours in penetrating oil).stonedmegman wrote: ↑Fri Nov 17, 2023 5:59 pmThat pipe and fitting are galvanized so I'm guessing it's electrical conduit, which is mostly PVC nowadays.Charliesheen wrote: ↑Fri Nov 17, 2023 11:34 am They ship those couplings with gas pipe. Try "heating the threads" next time. In my work a long cheater pipe is mandatory.Animal wrote: ↑Fri Nov 17, 2023 6:52 pmyep, but that little trick should work for iron pipe, or threaded pvc pipe or anything else that is threaded. i had to remove a pipe thread off of an old water well several years ago. i ended up with a cheater pipe about 10 feet long.
