I thought they understood when they voted out McCarthy that this new speaker wasn't going to play that game of tying one bill to another? Didn't we talk about this?

Pure bullshit.
The ONLY REASON the dysfunctional, hot mess, dumpster fire GOP killed the bill was so Trump can use the border against Biden while Trump campaigns.

And you both know it.

That's the spin they are putting on it, for sure.

It couldn't have anything to do with the fact that the Democrats have denied there is even a problem for 4 years and now they suddenly have the only solution and it must be passed today? that sounds logical.

The bill was a BIPARTISAN effort put together by a REPUBLICAN. The bill was exactly what you guys have been crying for for years.

But the dysfunctional, hot mess, dumpster fire GOP killed it just so Donald Trump could have some campaign talking points.
When the time came, the Republicans proved beyond any shadow of a doubt that they don't actually give a shit about the border. They just like complaining about it.

Yet again, more pure bullshit.

The dysfunctional, hot mess, dumpster fire Republicans DEMANDED that border security be part of the bill (remember that?)
But then when the time came to actually do something about the border, the something they had asked for, they welched on it and killed the deal just so the orange man wouldn't have his feel-feels hurt.

If you are confused, like RD is, about the significance of this bill, you have to ask yourself. If this is the greatest border bill in the last 20 years, then why are they attaching it to the funding for Israel and Ukraine? Why not just put the bill through on its own merits and let everyone vote on it at its own face value?

The answer to why they did that will probably clue you in on what's wrong with it. They tried to dangle just enough of a carrot out there to get what they wanted (Ukraine funding) knowing that would put the border issue to bed for years to come and they wouldn't have to revisit it. They probably would have gotten that passed with McCarthy as Speaker. But, they changed the speaker and now they have single bill Johnson.

BIPARTISAN deal.
Republicans DEMANDED border security be included in the bill.

What part of that are you having trouble understanding?

Republicans have been saying that they will not vote on funding Ukraine and Israel until there is a border bill to vote on. They didn't say to tie them together, in fact, they have said all along just the opposite. They want them voted separately. The republicans are holding out for a border deal that more closely resembles HR 2, which the democrats have killed.

Senate Republicans, led by Sens. Lindsey Graham (S.C.), Tom Cotton (Ark.) and James Lankford (Okla.), on Monday unveiled a list of immigration reforms they will demand be attached to any foreign aid package funding the war in Ukraine, signaling a difficult negotiation with Democrats in the next few weeks.
“We must make policy changes to reduce the flow of immigration. The world is on fire and threats to our homeland are at an all-time high. President Biden’s border policies are not working and it’s time to change course. Our proposal makes the necessary changes that our country needs at this critical time,” said Graham, the ranking member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, in a statement accompanying a one-page list of proposals.

The White House will step up its engagement with U.S. lawmakers trying to strike a bipartisan deal that would provide military aid for Ukraine and Israel while tightening U.S. border security, a Democratic senator said on Sunday.
Republicans have insisted that additional funding for Ukraine must be paired with major U.S. border security changes but a bipartisan group of senators trying to broker a compromise have made little progress with less than a week before the U.S. Congress leaves for a Christmas break.

While Senate negotiators deliberate over border policy changes to attach to foreign aid packages, Wisconsin Republican Sen. Ron Johnson plans to put forward his own proposal: Condition any aid to Ukraine on southern border crossing benchmarks.

Specifically, Johnson wants the United States to release funding to Ukraine on a monthly basis and only if the U.S. government can meet metrics showing a decrease in illegal border crossings. Should the Biden administration fail to meet a benchmark, Johnson said, a tranche of funding for Ukraine would be withheld.
