The 1st annual UJR NFL football pool.

Post by Reservoir Dog »

We've lost a good number of the old UJ sports forum regulars, but I'm sure we could scrape up enough NFL fans here in UJR to put together a pool this year.

Do it here in the forum? (I don't mind doing all the work and tracking it)
Take it to an off-site sports pool site? (I know a couple of good ones)
Straight up pick 'em?
Spread pool?

What say you UJR?

Welcome.
What are your thoughts on what type of pool it should be?

For every game? Or maybe everyone picks 5 games per week? Any 5 games they want.

I'm okay with any. I've usually been in pools that either went against the spread, or were confidence pools. You know, if there are 12 games, you assign 12 points to your biggest lock down to 1 point for you least certain game. And pick the point total on Monday night.

That's interesting.
I'm willing to do all the work on a spread pool, but if we were to do a confidence pool we would have to take it off-site and use a sports pool site.

Just a handful of games. Picking every game would get tedious. Three or five sounds like a good number. Maybe throw in some caveats too, such as you cannot pick the same winner (or loser) two consecutive weeks
That's very interesting. Especially if it was a spread pool. I kind of like that.

I want to wait until the 4th week to get a feel of how teams are playing, then come in for 1 or 2 weeks depending on how it goes, then base my success on my winning percentage.
Currently AFK.

I like straight up pick 'em, every regular season game, and a third party site like Yahoo or ESPN.

Yahoo does have good Fantasy games, but at Gat we have been doing an ESPN pick um for years, and it work great. It also allows you to toss out your worst week for the idiots that forget to pick one week basically eliminating them from competition.

I've been running a Yahoo Pick 'Em for 19 years, but I've never used ESPN. I'll take a look.

(does ESPN not have a setting where anyone who misses making all their picks is automatically given the lowest # of correct picks in that week?)

Not sure, but if you have already been doing Yahoo pickum, I am in.

I like that setting of the lowest score on missed week.

Yeah, I think we'll keep it here.
After thinking about it I don't really see any reason why we should all go sign up at some off-site when all of us are already here.
