All you need to have an equally effective wall on the southern border is 6.2k watchtower/ machine gun nests and 150,000 soldiers.
Political cartoon and meme thread for both sides of the spectrum.

Yes, what it changes is the idea that it's an argument for a mostly unattended 2000 mile long barrier fence that can be cut through in minutes. Makes that look pretty silly doesn't it, when you need 7000 troops with machine guns to mostly but not fully secure a hundred miles stretch.CHEEZY17 wrote: ↑Sun Nov 10, 2019 11:51 amYes I am aware. Actually, It makes the argument pretty well for how to do it. It was built in a targeted area (not the entire German border) staffed accordingly and functioned as intended. Ive said all along a 2000k mile wall is dumb. It should be built in targeted areas and manned appropriately.AnalHamster wrote: ↑Sun Nov 10, 2019 11:58 amYes, what it changes is the idea that it's an argument for a mostly unattended 2000 mile long barrier fence that can be cut through in minutes. One of the main reasons it worked was the "shoot to kill' policy to discourage escapees. Are you advocating that on the southern border?

Re: Political meme thread for both sides (Except Benchdick)
I lived in West Berlin in '82, in an abandoned building for a while almost right next to the Wall. Technically, the Wall was completely in DDR territory, and so *technically* it was illegal to approach and touch the Wall. Despite that, we regularly walked up to it, and I even pissed on it a time or two. Ya gotta go, ya gotta go. We could look over the Wall and see buildings from the end of WW2 that were merely patched up, with people living in them in poor conditions. On the Western side of the Wall, the buildings were mostly never maintained or lived in (except by us bums), due as I understood to be the agreement between the Western and Eastern German governments. While I lived there, a handful of people crossed over the Wall from the east to the west, most made it, and a few didn't. It should be noted nobody went west to east over the Wall, at least not in the city. If you were hell-bound to go into the DRR and stay, you just did. The DDR was surprisingly accommodating, and we went a couple times a week into East Berlin because it was cheap. Though we didn't stay. For that year, I don't remember anyone crossing into the East and staying, but I did hear rumors that American soldiers did occasionally cross and stay in past years. Any way...
What this dumb bitch fails to realize is that, despite what the DDR often stated about the Wall being there to keep out Western influences to their "socialist" dream state, the Wall was very much built to keep their own people inside of it. So they couldn't escape to the West. And live happy lives. The Wall outside East Berlin was much more effective, because it was built wide and thick and high, and damn dangerous. Because that wall was made to -keep folks in-, and not out. Which is what walls often do, fence in as well as they fence out. Just depends on what is the intent of the wall at the moment by the powers-that-be. A wall can be turned against you pretty effectively.

If you can't be a good example, you can still serve as a horrible warning.

Pointing out the obvious that the wall was indeed effective is not cheering for Soviet Communism you clueless hack. It's simply a a factual statement that even a mentally challenged person such as yourself cannot deny.Stapes wrote: ↑Sun Nov 10, 2019 3:17 pm

Yep, because no wall is perfect and our southern border wall thats implemented in strategic locations will also be monitored by motorized patrols, electronic surveillance and yes, armed personnel.Reservoir Dog wrote: ↑Sun Nov 10, 2019 6:16 pmCorrect me if I'm wrong... but wasn't the Berlin wall on the east side guarded by guys with machine guns?

Wait, what? You mean the great wall of China, the Berlin wall and the wall around the Vatican arent all exactly the same!!?? WTF?
Not sure why you cant/wont acknowledge the fact that all of these walls, while different, share the exact same fundamental purpose: to impede the movement from one area to another. Just like the Berlin wall did and the proposed southern border wall would do. That is how they are similar. Because they share the same purpose. Its really not that hard. Anything else you want to throw in there cannot change that fact.
