The system has conspired to make unwed motherhood the norm in the AA community. Welfare encourages it, imprisonment makes it much more likely, the fact that it happens so much makes it more likely to happen again. I can't blame a boy for not being a man, any more than I would celebrate a girl for having a child out of wedlock.

This also trickles outside of their community. I met a man on St. Lucia who bragged that he had a couple baby mommas back in the USA.

Not really, I think it's generational poor parenting combined with an ineffective educational system. I don't think kids are taught to fuck responsibly and the real impact of getting pregnant. I think sex Ed should be taught starting at a young age, 5th grade or so, and contraceptives including the pill and plan B pills should be made available free with no questions asked. I think this would cut down on unintended pregnancy and abortion and would save a ton of money in the long run.

I do blame the church a little for this as church people go nuts in opposition to it.

yep. any kid that is willing to spend 4 or 5 years (maybe more) learning a skill, a real skill that has value in the workforce, will be rewarded many times over.

This is where the cycle part of it comes in. You arent born knowing how to make good choices. If you're absolutely surrounded by people modeling consistently poor choices, its extremely hard to overcome that. Not saying it can't be done but you have to have the insight to realize it and the guidance and motivation to change it. Which, with a limited education and/or a criminal background, is much easier said than done.
