honestly, i think o2 sensors are just a "plant" by manufacturers to drum up business for mechanics.

I have always wondered about all the bells and whistles on engines now-a-days.

I'm sure some it really does help efficiency but I'm sure a lot of it is detrimental to the pocketbook for no other reason than $$$.

The old outboards in particular were simple to repair. Now you need computer surveillance equipment to get to the source of the bug.

i think that 1/2 of my expenses to auto mechanics for company vehicles is to do something after a check engine light came on due to an o2 sensor.

You can't be serious. You take your company vehicles in to a mechanic when the "check engine light" comes on? I haven't been in a company vehicle that didn't have that light on in 10 years.
