so the fact we have less deaths per capita is now not important. But when we talk about per capita pollution output it's suddenly important. Shut the fuck up you fucking moron.Stapes wrote: ↑Mon Mar 23, 2020 5:43 pm

The virus is pretty new in the US. Revisit that comment in about 10 days or 2 weeks, when all cases of people who have it are resolved in either recovery, or death. Hopefully it stays low, but I have my doubts. This virus is the real deal.

No more hair cuts, laundry, geek squad, oil change, landscapers, car lots, parts suppliers, shopping, printer ink, real estate, etc. Dallas County has 131 cases and 3 deaths so far.
Here in my small town in Socal, they have shut down all "non essential" businesses but and outlawed overnight visitors. Both Hotel/motel style and private home rentals (Airbnb). Laundry is considered essential here. County Recorder office is still open meaning technically Real Estate can still be trasferred but looks like most banks/lenders are slow playing everything and have even yanked loan products from buyers already in escrow. So unless you are maoing cash purchases, it would be tough to actually close a Real Estate transaction.
The rest of your list is supposed to be closed here as well but many
owners are staying open. Garages, contractors and construction based employees(some construction could be considered essential), some people going to closed offices and working.
Certain employees are receiving their "essential worker"papers (not cards but letters. That gives me the impression that they will soon begin to stop and question people who are on the roads or out in public. So far it has just been verbal instructions.
The mayor of LA did close the city beaches and city public parking lots to stop people from disobeying the order.

if you still aren't following things, compare the numbers in dallas to the numbers in ny city.
if that still doesn't work for you, then dallas went into "shelter in place" with 3 deaths on record. what were the statistics when NY city did that?

I don't know the exact # but obviously it was much lower even when NYC went on lockdown. You're also missing one key point. Since Dallas isn't yet at the front of the curve they have already learned from what's happened in NYC so of course they're going to be a bit quicker to react. Hopefully it works out well for you guys.Flumper wrote: ↑Mon Mar 23, 2020 7:33 pmby adding the numbers at the end of my post I was trying to make the point (that I started yesterday) that a city doesn't have to wait until its hospitals are over flowing and the governor is crying for federal help in order to shut things down. Like I've been saying (from CNN)
"Why "President" Cuomo was Trending"
Trump poses, while these governors actually lead...
https://www.cnn.com/2020/03/21/opinions ... index.html
President Donald Trump continues to spread disinformation and attack the press, which is working to get accurate, timely information to the public.
For those who were hoping Trump might rise to the occasion, it's likely that turning point may never come. Fortunately for the country, others are stepping in to fill the void.
Meanwhile, Gov. Andrew Cuomo of New York has quickly become one of the most familiar faces in the nation. Besides his own willingness to take increasingly stringent actions to avoid the spread of Covid-19, Cuomo has been extremely effective when speaking to the public. When it comes to strong leadership, public presentation matters.
He has clearly conveyed what is happening and what the plan is.

Couldn't this be taken a step further and say that our Government could have done a lot more to prepare before the big numbers started?
Like I have neen saying, short of a complete screening of every person coming into our country since the outbreak began or a hard and continuous National Shut-down back in January (at the latest), nothing was stopping the spread. No President would have done that especially one trying to get re-elected.

sure. Or even take it a step further than that. Couldn't our hospitals have started worrying about masks and ventilators back before the big numbers started? The President giving false statements, throwing tantrums and floating unproven medicine theories is not acceptable. It has real life consequences.
The fact that you ignored that and instead compared Trump to Bill Belichick is very damning to the pragmatic image you normally portrait on here.

Damn, it almost seems like getting the coronavirus is inevitable in that case. Can you believe there's now over 100 NYC police officers that tested positive for this virus? Stay safe. Like I said yesterday, two people staying at my house (one in the food market, the other in automotive) are deemed "essential" so they're out and about all day long and then come home. Even though my wife & I are stay@home I have to admit I'm a bit paranoid about them bringing something home. I just keep reminding myself that there's only a 3% mortality rate.Flumper wrote: ↑Mon Mar 23, 2020 8:37 pmmy business is considered "essential" so we are not shut down.FreakShowFanatic wrote: ↑Mon Mar 23, 2020 8:18 pmHey Flumper, did they deem your business "non essential" or are you going to stay open during the lockdown? Okay, Nutty McNut. I'll give you something to think about.
Let's talk about Hydroxychloroquine as a "maybe" drug to treat coronavirus. There are basically 3 types of people you could have as president.
1 would be a scientist that would be extremely measured in responses and not dare try a drug on a human patient until it has been proven safe for that particular disease under those particular circumstances. No room for error.
2 would be a politician that would never bring up anything that wasn't proven because of what the media might do about it. At least not until it was vetted by all his pollsters and handlers.
3 would be a businessman that wants to know why can't we try it? Is there a reason why we can't just try it? If not, then fuck it, let's try it.
I don't say that because i'm a trumpster. i say that because i'm a businessman and i have to do things like that every day. right now i'm considering measuring employees temperature with a meat thermometer and using painter rags as masks.

keep reminding yourself of this. its not the mortality rate they are worried about for you. the mortality rate for you is not much different than it was a year ago. what they worry about for you is that you get it and spread it to a few others and then one of you spread it to an elderly person with pre-existing conditions. That's what the worry is.FreakShowFanatic wrote: ↑Mon Mar 23, 2020 8:43 pmI just keep reminding myself that there's only a 3% mortality rate.

Re: Wuhan Coronavirus
That's not entirely true. There is room for error, but it has to be a manageable error. And instead of error, we should call it risk. A manageable risk compared to its effectiveness and its corresponding side effects. Because lawdie knows, someone going to get a boo-boo from the treatment and call down all the lawyers for some "just compensation" for their suffering. Nobody wants to be (ordinarily) the guinea pig, but everyone wants the cure. And they want it to taste like Orange Crush and butterflies come out of their ears and never be bothered by any disease again.Flumper wrote: ↑Mon Mar 23, 2020 8:44 pm Let's talk about Hydroxychloroquine as a "maybe" drug to treat coronavirus. I know because this is what (in part) my company does. One easy way to cure a disease is to kill everyone susceptible to it. In many cases, that would take care of a lot of human suffering, if there isn't anyone around to suffer from that disease. But this certainly isn't a manageable way to cure a disease, nor really ethical. The risk is too great.
If you can't be a good example, you can still serve as a horrible warning.
