About a dozen workers were seen digging the graves on Thursday as at least one refrigerated truck was brought onto New York City's Hart Island
Prisoners from Rikers Island are usually brought in to dig graves on Hart Island but the Department of Corrections has now stopped those in custody from carrying out the work due to the coronavirus outbreak

yeah, i get it. but here's the thing. if your town had an easter egg hunt, even though you only have 1 known case in that huge county, if one family had an aunt come in town to watch her little niece in the easter egg hunt, and she had the virus, she could easily spread it to several people at an event like that. And before those people know to get tested, they could each spread it to several. that's how this shit is spreading around these other places. it only takes one.WestTexasCrude wrote: ↑Thu Apr 09, 2020 8:55 pmDon't know- never walked it with one of those roller mileage thingies. The 4,800 square miles is correct. Anyhoo, the only thing I can figure is Easter is 3 days away and they are worried parents will bring all their kids to the park for an Easter egg hunt. Like they pile all the eggs in a big pile and let the kids go at it. Hell, it's eggs scattered over acres of park, and when you say go, all the kids scatter in all directions sometimes barely visible on the horizon. Sounds like the definition of social distancing to me. Like I said, common sense thrown out the window- did not expect that here.

No, the inmates aren't doing the burials right now. Other than that, maybe.

Such a drama queen. Nobody is asking for your loyalty to anything. All anybody is asking is that you give us a break from your constant, non-stop, 24-7 Trump bashing. Youre a fucking one trick pony and your trick is already old and tired.Tuesday wrote: ↑Thu Apr 09, 2020 9:51 pmCHEEZY17 wrote: ↑Thu Apr 09, 2020 9:48 pmBasically every country in the world is dealing with this. Places like that cemetery at Hart's Island are called "Potter's fields."
It's a place for the burial of unknown, unclaimed or indigent people.

P.S. I looked up NYC Potter's fields, and found this:The remains of more than one million people are buried on Hart Island, though since the first decade of the 21st century, there are fewer than 1,500 burials a year.
For anyone who's been there.Washington Square Park
However, the cemetery was closed in 1825. To this day, the remains of more than 20,000 bodies rest under Washington Square. Excavations have found tombstones under the park dating as far back as 1799.

Coronavirus reaches Amazon's isolated Yanomami tribe. Fears grow as Brazil confirms a 15-year-old Indigenous Yanomami boy contracted COVID-19.

i'm not entirely sure, but i heard Lindsey Graham bitching because S Carolina (I think) was wanting to add another $600 a week ON TOP of what the federal government had alotted to people on unemployement. Basically raising them up to making WAY more than they make on their job. And I don't think its hard to figure out where that would be headed.

I can see boosting UC to match what you were making pre-pandemic but I don’t think it makes sense to give people a bonus for being out of work.

How many people are getting unemployment right now? In florida these people cant even get online to start an application.....they just started making paper apps available. and if you don't starve before you might get a check its $275 a week. Can you eat and pay your bills on $275? It's fucking disgusting how people are treated but the shameful thing is these same people will keep voting in the same Repubs
I blame Biker.

Re: Wuhan Coronavirus
the problem there, i think, is that people don't have the schools to provide one good meal a day for their kids. Close the schools and you are basically taking the best meal of the day away from every kid that was enrolled. So, they are having to compensate for that by opening up these food bank's. Its not the best solution, but its about the only solution.
