The Chinese laboratory at the center of scrutiny over a potential coronavirus leak has been using U.S. government money to carry out research on bats from the caves which scientists believe are the original source of the deadly outbreak.

The Wuhan Institute of Virology undertook coronavirus experiments on mammals captured more than 1,000 miles away in Yunnan which were funded by a $3.7 million grant from the US government.

Sequencing of the COVID-19 genome has traced it back to bats found in Yunnan caves but it was first thought to have transferred to humans at an animal market in Wuhan.

The revelation that the Wuhan Institute was experimenting on bats from the area already known to be the source of COVID-19 - and doing so with American money - has sparked further fears that the lab, and not the market, is the original outbreak source.

If it's the lab I'm thinking of, it was recently defunded by the U.S. (and criticized for doing so), and its goal was to find viruses that were likely candidates to be the next SARS before they happened. So it existed to try to warn us about what could happen in places like Wuhan.

It's a bio weapons lab. It's function isn't to save lives.

Yeah, the U.S. would fund a Chinese weapons lab.

Snopes disagrees.

but i'm sure its an easy sell to the morons like Tuesday and Evilmonkey, etc. you know, the ones that look for any reason to hate the president.
President Donald Trump has a “small financial interest” in the maker of an anti-malarial drug that he has been touting as a “game changer” in treating coronavirus, according to The New York Times.

https://www.thedailybeast.com/trump-rep ... nufacturer

U.S. President Donald Trump earns some income from three family trusts that are administered independently by J.P. Morgan, an investment bank and wealth-management firm. These trusts are in part invested in mutual funds that themselves are partially invested in companies that produce hydroxychloroquine.

https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/trump ... loroquine/

So to say Trump has a financial interest in hydroxychloroquine is not a factual statement?

Look, do you fucking understand what a mutual fund is? I probably have a small financial stake in hydroxychloroquine and would have no fucking idea about it. Those funds can own hundreds or thousands of companies. And they might even own shares of other funds that own hundreds or thousands of companies.

Just be fucking honest. Guys like you spread this shit so the dummies will go berserk and think "holy shit, now I see why he's touting this drug. He's going to get rich off of the sales". When you know full well that is completely ridiculous.

man, these Covid 19 cases are dropping off like flies all of a sudden. even the death numbers are going down a lot.

Its weird though, I noticed that the number of "recovered" cases in the USA is 34,000 and I was thinking "holy shit, we have nearly 600,000 cases, that can't be right". So, I looked back a little.

Let's say it takes 3 weeks from the time you have a positive test result until you are deemed "recovered". 3 weeks ago would have been March 23rd. On March 23rd we had 43,600 cases in the United States (isn't that insane?). The upside to that is that the number of daily cases at that point was over 10,000 per day and growing VERY fast. Right now the number of new cases is under 30,000 and dropping. We are very very close to the number of active cases actually dropping. Probably April 19.

6 states in the NE and 3 on the west coast have formed groups to decide when their economies start to reopen.

When will they start the process? The pressure to open things up will be massive in another 2 weeks. If you wait too long and people just start ignoring the rules, you'll have no authority if you have to do it again in 5 months.

I read three things are required. 1. the curve has to be downward and that's already happened in some places, two weeks away for others. 2. hospitals have to be supplied (that means they aren't overly burdened at their current levels) 3. testing has to be ramped up.

The goal is to slowly open things up. I'm not sure how that works - is it ending the shelter in place but keeping restaurants closed for another week or two? Concerts, fairs and stadiums will likely be closed until August at least. Possibly much later. Trump is declaring he will decide when - that's 100% false. County government will decide.

I would suggest that they find 4 or 5 doctors that are smart as shit and have no fucking political concerns whatsoever. then have them dig elbows deep into the 22,000 deaths in this country and find out what the common denominators are that make this virus so deadly to some people. I know everyone is going to blurt out age, pre-existing conditions, etc. blah blah blah. I'm talking about decisive clinical combinations that lead to death when covid is introduced.

THEN quarantine those people. Quarantine the vulnerable and let the rest of everyone else go back to business. And set a ridiculous time table, kind of like our professors used to do for big projects. one week. We want to know the results in one week, let us know what you need in the meantime.
