Re: Where does most illegal immigration occur?
Wait, did the article really compare known visa over stays to known captured illegals?
Where was the estimated total border crossovers?
Article kinda misses the point.

The key point is that more people are here illegaly who entered the country legally, and overstayed. The NPR article referenced this study that makes it clearer: http://cmsny.org/publications/jmhs- ... wall/

Re: Where does most illegal immigration occur?
Your key point is suspect. Neither the NPR article nor the above link list estimated numbers for illegals who aren't caught.B-Tender wrote: ↑Sat Jan 12, 2019 8:38 pm The key point is that more people are here illegaly who entered the country legally, and overstayed. Re: Where does most illegal immigration occur?
The Center for Migration Studies of New York (CMS) is a think tank and an educational institute devoted to the study of international migration, to the promotion of understanding between immigrants and receiving communities, and to public policies that safeguard the dignity and rights of migrants, refugees and newcomers. CMS was established in 1964 and formally incorporated in 1969 by the Congregation of the Missionaries of St. Charles, Scalabrinians, a community of Catholic priests, nuns and lay people dedicated to serving migrants and refugees throughout the world. CMS is a member of the Scalabrini International Migration Network (SIMN), a global network of migrant shelters, service centers and other institutions along migrant corridors and in border and destination communities, and the Scalabrini Migration Study Centers, a network of think-tanks on international migration and refugee protection.

Detected border crossings are used a proxy for undetected border crossings. Since the resources and cover is consistent, if you double the catch you can estimate you've also roughly doubled the number missed.Antknot wrote: ↑Sat Jan 12, 2019 10:26 pmYour key point is suspect. In the history of crime the cops are always having to adapt to new ways of doing something illegal. Less being nabbed does not always equate to less trying to cross.

Kind of a limited number of ways of walking across an open border or jumping a wall. Apprehensions seems like a reasonable proxy in this case, and certainly the best and only available proxy.Antknot wrote: ↑Sat Jan 12, 2019 11:41 pmBut is the reverse true?analhamster wrote: ↑Sat Jan 12, 2019 11:08 pmDetected border crossings are used a proxy for undetected border crossings. Then visit a texas town that just reported its lowest crime rate in 34 years to explain how dangerous life is without a wall. But maybe detected crime isn't a good proxy for how much crime there is.captquint wrote: ↑Sun Jan 13, 2019 12:37 amWe could just lie and say millions of rapists and gang members cross every month, ISIS tooanalhamster wrote: ↑Sun Jan 13, 2019 12:17 amKind of a limited number of ways of walking across an open border or jumping a wall. Re: Where does most illegal immigration occur?
A lot of people been saying that crime is at an all time high in Texas, believe me, they aren't sending their best. They're sending murderers and rapist, MS-13 is going to rape your daughters, rape your sons, light your golden retriever on fire. Shitty Chucky Shumer wants your family to die. SAD!analhamster wrote: ↑Sun Jan 13, 2019 12:45 amThen visit a texas town that just reported its lowest crime rate in 34 years to explain how dangerous life is without a wall.
