The House of Representatives has passed a bill that could ban TikTok from the United States and grant the president sweeping new authorities to target foreign companies in the United States.
The Protecting Americans from Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act was passed in a bipartisan 352–65 vote on March 13; 197 Republicans and 155 Democrats voted in favor of the bill, while 50 Democrats and 15 Republicans voted against it. One Democrat voted “present.”
The bill would legally require social media giant TikTok to divest from its China-based parent company, ByteDance, or face a ban on U.S. app stores and hosting services.
In theory, I like the ban of the Chinese information gathering app.
The information I've heard that this bill contains though would give the Executive branch authority to ban WEBSITES it doesnt like. God knows that would never be abused, right?

it reminds me of the people that worry about Alexa filming them in their house or the security cameras that might be recording stuff. Who do people think has the time to go through the bazillion hours worth of non sense to wait on one moment of something interesting?
I have 4 survellance cameras on our construction yard and 99.99999% of the video footage is never seen by anyone. Its my own stuff and I can't stand watching it.

here's the thing. if a person has tik tok on their iphone. and the chinese government goes in and installs a worm into their tik tok and it gets into their phone. then it could crawl from their tiktok app in their phone into their email account app that is also on their phone and it could attach itself. and then when they go into work and they log into their email, *BOOM*! They are in. The chinese government would then have complete control of your work computer.
