Work Rant
So, after 3 years with a big corporate Health Care Network working behind the scenes in administration and ensuring everyone's medical records are correct and saved properly I've been moved to a new role.
I guess while I was gone in Ireland one of my dumbass coworkers went above my boss's head to her boss and discussed how she had little to do because there wasn't enough work to go around. Now within our department; we know that, not a lot of work is sent to that dumb dumb because she sucks at her job and she always passes it to someone else. For example, I trusted her to cover 6 days of the cardiologist I worked for and she passed three days on to someone else - all the while accepting my fucking "thank you" when I returned.
Anyway, the corporate heads did a little digging into our department and yes our department and career field is going away.
Big corporate people in charge decided to put me in a new field because they felt my "skills were wasted" and have moved me to what's called "patient care coordination and prior authorization".
This now means constant contact with providers, insurance companies, and pharmaceutical companies all the fucking time. I've told them for the last two weeks that I do not know what I'm doing, this is not my field, and I have intentionally avoided working with insurance throughout my whole career. Yesterday after about four team chat messages and two personal texts from the doctors I clocked out and took the rest of the day as a mental health day.
I was told to take all the time I need blah blah blah. I want to take today too. I seriously don't want to do this, I hate it with a passion.
Should I quit? Corporatized Healthcare is destroying Healthcare. The company I work for is one of the biggest most hated companies out there and now I'm seeing the billing / revenue cycle area of it and it's just disgusting and completely stressful. I would much rather work at a cash register at like a floral shop or a garden nursery or something. I'm just over it! I've busted my ass since 2002! My student loans are paid! I'm so freaking over it!!
I'm sorry for the novel I needed to vent to people removed from the situation and maybe get fresh ideas? Trust me I've thought about naked ideas too!!
jk.

Dealing directly with insurance companies blows. I feel for you.
Mrs. Cheezy is in a similar situation where she hates the bullshit at her job but has always been terrified of making a change. What I tell her is this:
What is the tipping point where the daily bullshit you have to endure surpasses the amount of money you make? How much is your mental health worth?
Have a sit down with your BF and find out if you two can afford the loss or decrease of income while you look to transition to something else (if thats your decision).

Cheesy‘s advice is good. All I can I add is don’t make a decision right away.

no one should do what they hate. And if you don't like the way a company does business or the business they are in, then you certainly should not put yourself in a position to be part of the thing that you hate. As an example, I can't stand telemarketers. The idea of bothering hundreds of people on the phone just in hopes of the one that might be slightly interested in what you have to sell disgusts me. It would be torturous for me to have to work there and I simply wouldn't do it.
There are tons of small businesses that need capable people to wear dozens of hats in their day to day businesses. And you can have a real impact on their success, which they are glad to reward. It takes some real effort to find those jobs though, since those companies don't generally advertise for openings. They tend to use word of mouth and references from people they know.

I think it's also at the point where I've gotten what I need from my career in this arena. The fact that I think about work in the middle of the night when I can't sleep and I get like a stomach ache at the thought of even walking into my own office is proof that I'm done LOL. The boyfriend and I have discussed it at length with him graduating from The Apprentice program he's now in the journeyman program and will soon be a supervisor. He makes in one week what I make in two. We'll be fine and he's cool worth whatever decision I make.CHEEZY17 wrote: ↑Wed Jun 12, 2024 12:52 pm Dealing directly with insurance companies blows. I did take today off too and scheduled a Teams Meeting for tomorrow.

Exactly that first part. I had passion for my old role. It's been drained and there's so much disorder and no one gives a SHIT about HIPAA or the rules which pisses me off. One of them actually advised that I download WhatsApp so that we can exchange information on patients that need prior authorizations. I pointed out to them that WhatsApp is not HIPAA compliant and we are also not supposed to discuss anything regarding patient health information via or personal cell phones. That chick acted like it's the first time she had heard such a thing.Animal wrote: ↑Wed Jun 12, 2024 1:13 pm no one should do what they hate. The best time to look for a new job, is while you still have the old one.

Re: Work Rant
as has been said and from my own experience ,a new job is easier to find when you currently have a job. When interviewing be careful when asked why you are leaving. Don't bad mouth your current situation or bosses. If you do,they will figure you will do that to them if they hire you. You are looking for 'advancement' you cannot get at your current place. You know your strengths and it is not insurance interface. I know a guy who alerted about HIPPA violations which turned into Medicare/aid fraud. He got 10% of recovered money. If you are friends with any doctors u trust, give them a heads up you are looking. I had a group of radiologists that had a transcriber that never misspelled and knew all the correct terms.they paid her well and it all went up her nose, anyway, good luckdisco.moon wrote: ↑Wed Jun 12, 2024 2:14 pmExactly that first part. I worked in the Pennsylvania Medicaid field for many years so all I could do was shake my head when I recently filled out a dental disclosure form that spelled it HIPPA. It was an electronic form so I fixed it and emailed the completed form back to them.

Thanks!! I'm actually looking into that, it's what I did before cardiology. I'm definitely going to discuss other options within the corporation and id thats a no go thenI am going to offer up some boundaries; one clinic to handle not fucking 3 and no in-visit patients. And if none of that works I'll turn in my resignation and spend a couple weeks next to my Barbie pool while I regroup!fouts wrote: ↑Wed Jun 12, 2024 4:39 pmas has been said and from my own experience ,a new job is easier to find when you currently have a job. Re: Work Rant
Had a driver back in 1998, that was delivering in Michigan and decided to take a short cut on a state road that had patches on it from when Eisenhower was in office. Tractor and trailer weighing about 70k loaded went over a bridge rated for 20 ton...in front of a highway patrolman who just happened to be at the entrance to a dirt road next to the bridge. Said officer put on his blue light and pulled the driver. He explained to him that there were 2 more bridges like this ahead of him and that he could not cross as they were rated for less than what he weighed, and he would have to back up about a mile to get off the road. Needless to say, he would have to back over the bride he just crossed. They had to block the road he turned on so he could back up the entire distance. He was written a fine for 2k, 1k for crossing and 1k for backing back over it and we received a fine of 5k for hiring an idiot. In addition, we were informed that Michigan State DOT Engineers would have to do bridge inspection before they would open the road back and would inform our liability carrier of such. The estimated cost of the inspection was 40k.
We contacted our insurance carrier on a conference call and informed them of the situation inquiring how the inspection would be handled as we had 1 million in auto liability, 1 million in commercial general liability with a general aggregate of 2 million umbrella in addition to 500k in cargo.
After the sounds of general laughter, guffaws, and crying til they peed petered out we were politely informed that our insurance covered everything under normal operations except stupidity. The quote was..."you don't have stupid insurance".
This has nothing to do with the current topic, but I hope it helps.

^^^ that's crazy! All insurance sucks.
Well I put together a really great email yesterday and then I had a team's meeting. I told them I want to start with one Clinic learn it really good and then I will move on to the other clinics. They were all very happy that I was not leaving. It's kind of crazy the giant machine really sucks but sometimes the people in the periphery are pretty decent. Today has been much better and much more calm. I got to admit I would have definitely missed out on having a corporate paycheck every two weeks LOL
