I like fruit cake.

All the news from the peanut gallery and where all the nasty trash talk fails miserably.

:chefskiss: I look forward to this time of the year. I eat a few Claxton ones a year from Walmart. Good stuff.

Mom made fruit cake cookies every year for Christmas. They weren’t bad but my favorite were the peanut butter with the Hershey’s kiss on top.

Bourbon fruitcake is a personal favorite, the only way I like the taste of bourbon.

I'm not, I love a well-made fruitcake. Well-made is the key, not just some cheap-ass brick fruitcake from a big-box store. Collin Street Bakery is still one of the very best, we have two every Xmas. "The Pride of Corsicana!"

Some people love lemon (or any) meringue pie, I'd rather have my nuts nailed to a splintery wall than be forced to eat that glop.

A restaurant I used to work at served a walnut turtle pie. It was served warmed up with Blue Bell ice cream (until the listeria thing).

My grandmother used to make a 21-layer rum cake for Christmas every year. The cake layers themselves were of the bran variety, (very thin and hard), and the filling was made with dried apples from the fall that were reconstituted with a little water, lemon and rum, (or bourbon if she had it), then cooked down to basically a paste that was put in between each layer. It had to stand for 3 days before it could be eaten to allow the layers to soften...was wonderful and very flavorful.

She had a version that was also made with homemade chocolate sauce.
It is absolutely amazing that some people survive walking out of their homes...fo reelz!

Oh, you won't get any argument from me about pecan pie being the best dessert of all, bar none. The recipe on the back of a can of Steen's is probably the best in general, but any pecan pie is good pecan pie. Only problem is that here in Florida we can only get those larger but flavorless Georgia pecans, not proper smaller but much tastier Texas pecans. Any fat 'n happy squirrel can tell you that! :)

I ordered some Steen's syrup and molasses. I wish they made elderberry jelly.
