As you all know I got another 125 gallon tank aboot a year ago.

Due to health and other reasons, it's taken me awhile to get it up and running.

I have water in it along with the rocks and 60kg of sand.

I was just about ready to hook up a wet/dry filter for it, which is a bit of a story in of itself, when I came across an external filter I could not ignore.

It is good for up to a 235 gallon tank, 5 level filtration and a built in UV lamp, programmable for 4/8/24 hrs.

All total it was $149 Canadian.


And it is huge, measuring 9" square and 16" high.

Yes. It pumps 2500 L/hr. That's roughly 650 gph for the 3 metrically impaired countries of the world.

Yes. It pumps 2500 L/hr. That's roughly 650 gph for the 3 metrically impaired countries of the world.

That filter will probably be sufficient for a 125 gallon, assuming you don't plan to heavily stock it. The filter companies calculate the flow rate using an empty filter. Once the media is added, it significantly reduces the actual flow, so the claim that it can run a 235 is definitely exaggerated. I personally run two eheim 2217 canisters that are roughly that size, plus a Fluval FX6, on my 125, but I am heavily stocked with large African Cichlids. I still think wet/dry is the better option for both filtration and ease of maintenance and plan to go with wet/dry on my next tank. Best of luck!

I totally agree on the wet/dry option. The added bonus that attracted me to this particular one is the built-in UV lamp. I think my well water is questionable.

And it has 5 trays with medium and bio balls. I bought a 5 lb bag of activated coconut shell carbon to use in 2 or 3 trays.

I'm also thinking I may have to downgrade my dual wave pumps to a single. I'm getting way too much residue from the sand.

I don't know if you've ever seen this guy but I use his methods for my canisters. He basically improves the filtration over the standard media that comes with the filter. I couldn't find any Vevors that he's done but this video is of a canister with 5 trays. The concept would be the same for yours.
