Just do it...trust me
Cook up a couple of slices of SPAM about 1/4 inch thick each. I like mine a touch crispy but not burnt. Put it on some buttered toast with an egg and some cheese. Do it.

Re: Just do it...trust me
I have a hard time eating spam because for me it is just too salty. I usually slice up the "brick" and simmer it in nearly boiling water for about 20 minutes and then smoke it just a little bit and I like it alot better that way. I sometimes then grind it up and make a smoked spam salad spread I like that either in a sandwich or just on crackers, but by itself it is just way too salty for me. I had that problem with hot dogs the other day. Don't remember if they were hebrew national or nathans but I just put a cooked one in a bun, nothing on it, and I don't know if a mistake was made while making them but it was salty so I trashed them after one bite. I've thought over the last few years it seems like hams and hot dogs have more salt added , maybe so they last longer?

My grandma and great grandma made those all the time with fresh garden tomato. Great sandwich, though I prefer it on a bagel

Yea, we keep a few cans of Spam in the cabinet for those times we don't want to futz around with bacon or sausage, and it does go great with eggs and English muffins. I usually make French omelets, the wife prefers to make over-medium eggs.
Hormel does make a low(er) sodium version that reduces the salt level from a lethal dose to a level about 3x the maximum daily dietary amount. I just add a little salt back to give it flavor and the wife loves it just like it is.

If you can't be a good example, you can still serve as a horrible warning.

The thing I don't like about the lower sodium kind is it's got mechanically separated chicken in it. I just want it like regular with less salt. I bought a case of spam some time ago and it seems like the best by date was 7 years away. So I think they could just reduce the amount of salt in it and have it reach best by in 2 or 3 years.QillerDaemon wrote: ↑Sun Mar 16, 2025 4:39 pm Yea, we keep a few cans of Spam in the cabinet for those times we don't want to futz around with bacon or sausage, and it does go great with eggs and English muffins. Yes, Rick. The guy that grew up in the Detroit ghetto is just learning about SPAM and egg sandwiches.

I made one this morning as I do every so often and just thought it'd be a cool thing to post on a board that is basically dead lately.

And no, Rick. I didn't just discover it in 2020.

You were proven wrong yet again, Ricky. I understand why you're lashing out; it must be very frustrating for you.

That was on regular over the air tv the other night. It's weird that they exchanged some of the bad words with overdubs so it wasn't "dirty" but damned Bernadette Peters I have always had a thing for her. I almost had to jack it!

Re: Just do it...trust me
funny you should mention that , actually 2 parts to this. I met my wife on my birthday in 1995 in the phillippines. They had a birthday party planned for me. I guess it was the best birthday ever.Smoking hot babe a month shy of 17. So they had all sorts of stuff to eat and her uncle asked if I liked rice and sausage, and I was 'sure , sounds good". When they served it it was rice with vienna sausage. I just started to laugh, but for them sausage was vienna sausage. I felt bad about laughing so I apologized but they all understood I wasn't used to seeing that.
Now part 2 , at the watering hole years ago some of the regulars got started with "I'm italian so I have an italian sausage" Another guy said "I'm polish so I guess I have a polish sausage" the third guy , he didn't care for me very much, he said 'I don't know what I am so I don't know what kind of sausage I have" I was getting a good buzz so I hollered out "I think you have a vienna sausage" . He was pissed and was grabbing me to take me outside to kick my ass. About 10 guys pulled him away and told him to calm down. He was an asshat. Everyone in there heard the entire conversation and bought me pitchers of beer.

You can buy it at most Walmarts, I noticed it on the shelf yesterday at my nearest store.

Oh yeah. RFK would not be happy with the levels of sodium in that sandwich for sure.

The thread won't win any awards for sure but it's not like anything else was happening in GD. Plus, we got to see Ricky take another L. That's always fun.
