Drove home this afternoon but saw a beautiful sight this morning out on a W Texas oil field road in the middle of nowhere. Saw a flash out of the corner of my eye. Slowed to nothing and a Mom Javelina and her 2 piglets slowly crossed in front of me. Hope the feral pig hunters can tell the difference. Javelina aren't native either but they are not causing any harm like the ferals.
i don't know anyone that would confuse a javalina for a feral pig.
You know they exist, why else would farmers have to paint cow on the side of their cattle during hunting season?

Like I've said. I first heard of these eclipses when I moved to Kerrville 3 years ago. I mean if you look at the tracks (Oct 2023 NW- SE/ April 2024 SW-NE) they both bisect bulls-eye within 25 miles of where I live. That has to be extremely rare. Of course over the age of Earth- Billions of years- probably had it happen 1 day apart many times

Nope. Moved to Kerrville in October 2020 when I first heard about this. Seemed forever in the future

Dumb question
I want to video this whole thing on my phone and post it on here via Imgur. Say 5 minutes of total darkness, 15 minutes before and after of it getting darker and lighter. Never video'd anything close to that long. Is there any time limit when doing a video on your phone?

I'd like to see you get 5 min of darkness on a 4 min eclipse.

Well, it's an annular eclipse so there won't be total darkness at any point.
Also, I doubt Imgur will allow a file that large.

Yeah, I'm not sure that CTC has figured out exactly what this means. I think they call it a "ring of fire" eclipse, because the moon is far enough away in its orbit that its not big enough to block out the entire sun. Over CTC, it will be centered over the sun, but it will still allow light around the circumference all the way around. I think they say it will block about 90% of the sun. So it won't really be 90% dark, but it will be pretty dim outside. And (I think) you still have to have really good eye protection (welding lens or the correct glasses) in order to look up at the ring of fire.

Actually I am going to "film" this on a secluded spot near Bandera at bullseye . I will do a Spielberg and video with sound so you hear the animals and insects go silent as I pan to the flaming "Ring of Fire". I'll expect my UJR Oscar trophy in the mail very soon afterword.

Try to ignore the heavy, labored breathing in the background.

No, unlike the July 4th 2021 video, this will be happening in the late morning. No hours of drinking followed by falling off the side of Smokey Mtn into cactus

can you do your Steven Hawking impersonation as a narration to the ring of fire?

I was thinking Oct 15th newspaper headlines
"Local Kerrville man killed yesterday during the eclipse"
"Pack of predators took advantage of the darkness to kill"
"Local Ranchers vow revenge by killing every snake within a 100 miles"
